Plain of Jars

The Plain of Jars in Xieng Khouang province in Central Laos remains a mystery to today. No one has been able to determine whether the jars, which date from 500 BC, were for storage, burial chambers or something else. The historic site which was heavily bombed by American warplanes in the 1970's, is now being cleared of unexploded ordinance, but to explore the area it is necessary to remain on paths.
